CERAMIC VS PORCELAIN

People often ask Ceramic vs Porcelain? Simply put, both ceramic and porcelain tiles are made from a clay mixture then fired in a kiln.

The difference being porcelain tile is made of a more refined clay fired at a higher temperature than ceramic this, it to be more dense and more durable than ceramic tile.

Ceramic tile is a mix clay and different types of minerals and water. You will find red or white clay tiles. Red clay ceramic tile is a less expensive tile and now where near as durable as white clay and both having a glazed surface.

Porcelain tile is made of clay, sand, and feldspar.  Feldspar is a mineral found in granite.  The combination of the strength sand lends to the mixture, while feldspar melts and fuses all the materials resulting in a much more dense tile than ceramic tile.

Porcelain tile is 30% stronger than granite and more stain resistant.  Porcelain tile being fired at temperatures up to 2,300°F drives out more water, while the feldspar melting to form a low-order glass rendering it far more impervious and is available in glazed and unglazed surfaces.

Porcelain tile has greater body strength and less likely to crack, freeze/thaw resistance - makes porcelain a great choice for outdoor use.
