YOU ARE SPENING GOOD MONEY FOR TILE, IT WOULD BE A SHAME TO WASTE THAT MONEY ON SUB-PAR INSTALLATION.
PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT!
Why do tile installers charge more than handymen and contractors that do many trades?
There are a number of reasons;
- Experience, Skill, Training
- Knowledge
- Tools
- Insurance
- Taxes
Experience
Tile work is not as it seems on the surface.
You would assume it’s glue or cement and toss on the tiles and smear grout in the joints.
Let me or any professional tile installer tell you there is far more involved. We didn’t pick up a trowel and viola we are tile artisans. We began as helpers, then apprentices and then began installing simple tiles and layouts until we perfected our craft.
Knowledge
Along with the knowledge we acquired in our learning stages of becoming a tile installer, we continue to learn and stay up to date with the latest technology. It is this knowledge that will insure a quality installation. We know what is and isn’t an acceptable subfloor and what needs to be done to make the subfloor a solid base to support the tile. Through years of experience and knowledge we also know which type of tiles, including various glazes are suitable for your particular application.
We are familiar or well versed in requirements by local authorities in commercial installations, as well as waterproofing, floor deflection, grouts and thinsets needed in a residential tile installation. This is our one and only trade, meaning all of our time is spent perfecting our craft and learning tile only.
Tools
There are many specialty tools for tile installation. Knowledge and experience will guide us as to the notch size of a trowel in conjunction with the tile size. Blades to cut the tile, or drill bits to cut perfect circles. Polishing pads and stones to finish the cut edges as opposed to the many rough or chipped edges we have seen in non-tile professional jobs. All of the proper tools allow for a better looking finish.
Insurance
As professionals we are required by law to carry liability insurance. As smart businessmen we carry insurance in the event of a mishap. You can rest assured that injury on the job is covered. Accidental damage to your home or items in the home that may be scratched, broken or damaged is also covered.
Taxes
There is no avoiding this expense. As a business corporation we are required to pay sales tax, payroll taxes and income tax.
All in all, at the end of the day, approximately 50% of the labor we charge goes to tax, insurance and wear and tear on our tools. I don’t know about you but I would feel more comfortable with a professional company who possesses all of the above categories.
